Partner Simone Lahorgue was the Keynote Speaker at the Global Legal Tech Venture Day held at FGV Law School

Our partner Simone Lahorgue Nunes was the keynote speaker at the “Global Legal Tech Venture Day”, an event held at FGV Rio Law School last week, in partnership with IE University and Law Schools Global League (IE University Law Society). The event hosted the LegalTech Startup Competition, and promoted discussions on the myriad ways AI interact with law and impacts legal practices.

In her speech, Simone addressed the challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence presents to entrepreneurs: “every day, we all enjoy the benefits of this technology, whether it’s simplifying daily tasks or advancing clinical medicine and scientific research. However, while AI is often employed as a solution, it also poses challenges for society.”

According to Simone, “risks to fundamental rights must be identified and mitigated from the very inception of AI systems, and regulation plays an important role in this regard as it will force entrepreneurs to be compliant with this requirement. This is a pressing matter which requires full attention from governments, otherwise damages to society may become irreversible. That said, regulation should not hinder the development of innovation, but rather should aim at ensuring a healthier environment.”
